Hiroshi Nakahara, a 48-year-old salaryman, inadvertently boards the wrong train to Tokyo following a business excursion to Kyoto. Upon realizing his mistake, he resigns himself to the situation and settles in for the ride, discovering that the train is en route to his hometown of Kurayoshi. Roaming the streets of his old neighborhood, Hiroshi recognizes how drastically the place has changed in the couple of decades since his mother's passing. As he pays his respects at his mother's grave in the Genzen Temple, he's magically transported back to his 14-year-old self. With his adult mind's memories and knowledge still intact, he becomes a junior high school eighth-grader. His newfound youthfulness allows Hiroshi to escape from the trappings of adulthood, namely his marriage and two daughters. With no concept of how to return to his original timeline, he fully embraces his adolescence, all while attempting to uncover the reasons behind his father's desertion of their family in order to better comprehend the man and his actions.
